Reusable Bowl Covers

I have started a new venture in addition to embroidery, I am sewing up a storm making reusable bowl covers. They are machine washable & dryable with made in Canada FOODSAFE lining. I have been using a set that were made in China and LOVE them. I’ve used them as gifts and everyone I’ve given them too asks where to get those so they can get more, gift them and their friends want them too. So, this got me to thinking, I should make these. With the craze for the beeswax wraps taking off, this is the time for my alternative. I’m a big fan of these reusable bowl covers because they are machine washable in hot & soapy water unlike the beeswax wraps. The Foodsafe lining (which is manufactured in Canada) was lab tested with over 300 washes & dries. So if you hang to dry instead of dry in dryer it will last WAY longer. I  am using 100% cotton for the outer cover and also the bias tape edge.

I’m making these in various sizes and even shapes (hello rectangle 9×13 casserole pan).  I am also going to make unlined covers for dough rising and dust cover for those standup mixer bowls that are forever collecting kitchen crumbs/grime.

Custom Gifts

Giving a customized gift is the most exciting trend. Giving a gorgeous wooden cutting board with the couple’s names and wedding date engraved on it is one of my favourite. Another great customizable gift is an embroidery hoop for a wedding with names, date, and even flowers to match the bride’s bouquet. Another idea that I have never thought of before is using a hoop as a ring Kissen instead of a ring pillow. I was requested a hoop just like this from Germany only last year, just beautiful.  You can personalize and tie the rings with ribbon on the embroidered fabric.

Find time to relax

In our busy, electronic saavy, social media, multi-tasking, fast-paced lives we often forget to sit down and relax. I know I do, or what I do finally sit down I’m so wiped I can only zone out in bed binge-watching Netflix. I have found a couple of things to be helpful:

First, sit down and relax with a cup of tea (or coffee) before you’re exhausted.

Second, Netflix is ok but Netstitching…now thats where its at. What is Netstitching? It’s listening to Netflix while stitching. Let’s face it, there aren’t too many shows that you really have to pay attention to what is happening on screen – I can only really think of Sherlock (BBC) as a must-not-do-anything-else-while-watching type of program.

Do you ever net-binge and feel like you’ve wasted three hours? Well, if you take up stitching you can accomplish something while watching/listening! No more guilt, and something to show for your time. Make gifts for weddings, anniversaries, new homes, baby announcements. You can create something with your favourite quote, or even something a little sassy. The options are endless!
